Many Songs These Days

My friends definitely poke fun at me because I’m always singing or humming something. Lately, I’ve been singing a whole lot. There’s a power that comes from praise. Jehoshaphat saw the deliverance of the Lord not by lifting swords and bows, but through lifted voices and the Sword of Truth that became songs of deliverance (2 Chronicles 20). The least likely thing to defeat the Moabites and Ammonites, God used powerfully. “After consulting the people, Jehoshaphat appointed men to sing to the Lord and to praise Him for the splendor of His holiness as they went at the head of the army saying, ‘Give thanks to the Lord, for His love endures forever’ . As they began to sing…”, God defeated the opposing army. I find it interesting that the singers went ahead of the army, not the skilled swordsmen. There is Power in Praise. The Bible says that the Lord sings over us with songs of deliverance. Could it be that when we sing, even in a sacrifice of praise, we are joining with the heavenly chorus of God’s own songs that deliver His people?! Wow…

Like I said, there are many songs these days, but one that’s an oldie, but goodie and is so deeply entrenched in the fibers of my soul keeps surfacing in my heart. Sounds super dramatic, I know, but I cannot even begin to tell anyone how many battles this song has been sung through. It’s by Shane Barnard:

Waiting Room

i will run when i cannot walk
i will sing when there is no song
i will pray when there is no prayer
i will listen when i cannot hear

sitting in the waiting room of silence
waiting for that still soft voice i know
offering my words up to the rooftop to Your heart
trusting that this closet’s where You are

Lord i know if i change my mind
You will change my heart in time
Sovereign Lord this time’s from You
so i sit in the waiting room of silence
cause its all about You

i will fight when i cannot feel
i will trust when You dont seem real
i will tell when i cannot speak
i will step when i cannot see

sitting in the waiting room of silence
waiting for that still soft voice i know
offering my words up to the rooftop to Your heart
trusting that this closet’s where You are

Lord i know if i change my mind
You will change my heart in time
Sovereign Lord this time’s from You
so i sit in the waiting room of silence
cause I’m in love with You

There is renewed strength in waiting, when we wait on the Lord and not answers per-se or circumstances, but just solely wait on the Lord (Is. 40:31). He so wonderfully changes our minds and hearts when we choose Him and wait upon Him. Great is His faithfulness (see, there’s another song as of late!). Praise gives us the ability to fight when we cannot feel or see, to sing and pray when there are no words, to run and trust when we have no idea what is ahead and it has the supernatural ability to change our will and hearts to be conformed to His. This time is truly from Him. So, “Take up your positions, stand firm and see the deliverance the Lord will give you” as you trust and praise.
